The Corner Store is an homage to a classic New York bar and restaurant—that warm, welcoming neighborhood stalwart that offers both a patina of history and feels as though it’s been there forever, as well as a luxurious portal to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. With careful attention to layout, we created a variety of rooms and dining styles to make every seat in the house is as great as the food.
The new Corner Store concept revives the intimate, bustling restaurants of Soho’s past at the intersection of West Broadway and Houston Street. Warm vintage inspired lighting accentuates the eclectic material palette of antiqued brass, textured plaster, classic checkered marble flooring, and high-gloss wood paneling. The spaces open up progressively, with intimate warmth giving way to cool and classic.
The minimal, black-painted storefront with brass accents allows for glimpses of classic drapery that hint at what’s inside. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a vintage host stand and a classic, stately bar. The floor features checkerboard marble tile with mismatched coral tiles placed throughout. Cane-pattern acoustic ceiling tiles are framed with old world plaster molding.
The Mid-Dining space in the center of the restaurant condenses to create an informal ambience among the booths. Cove lighting softly highlights the plaster raised ceiling to provide a warm glow.
The portal from the Main Dining room to Mid-Dining is framed with mirror (when facing Mid Dining from Main Dining). Two existing skylights are draped with large-scaled striped awnings and framed with high gloss wood. Vintage red patterned wall panels are a backdrop for the curated collection of photography of vintage New York City scenes. In between, green tambour wall panels are anchored by hand-painted sconces. Three back booths feature candy stripe fabric for a pop of color.
