DineOut Queens

Queens, NY

Queens has been the epicenter of the COVID-19 crisis in New York City, disproportionately affecting its residents—many of whom are immigrants from all over the world—and straining its hospitals and first responders. Our two communal DineOut sites receive heavy foot traffic from nearby hubs: Diversity Plaza, the Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street subway station, and Elmhurst Hospital. Together, DineOut Jackson Heights and DineOut Elmhurst create new public space for guests to gather and eat simultaneously at a safe distance, while also helping restaurants get back on their feet.

Our flexible, adjustable dining environments are located in the parking lanes on 37th Road between 74th and 75th Streets in Jackson Heights (above) and nearby Woodside Avenue between 76th and 77th Streets in Elmhurst. Woodside Avenue is closed to vehicle traffic Friday–Sunday.

The installation includes built-in banquette seating and an open deck with loose furniture, umbrellas, and our custom-designed, curved plexiglass partitions.

Our custom plexiglass partitions all but disappear, creating a more intimate and lively experience.

On Woodside Avenue, we installed 14 of our 8x8’ modules and telescoping planters to create a 108-foot-long installation, accommodating many of the Avenue’s Thai, Chinese, Nepali, Indonesian, and Singaporean restaurants.
