The Anthem—a performing arts and cultural venue anchoring The Wharf DC development along the city's southwest waterfront—hosts its grand opening tomorrow with a sold out Foo Fighters concert. Rockwell Group brought its extensive nightclub and hospitality experience to the design of I.M.P.'s 57,000-square-foot venue, which can accommodate between 2,500 and 6,000 people. The design of The Anthem evokes the industrial character of this historic region and creates an entry presence on the Potomac.
The majestic three-story lobby has a marquee balcony extending beyond the adjacent building façade and overlooking the water’s edge, offering sweeping views up and down The Wharf. The balcony features a railing comprised of a pixelated water-jet cut metal pattern evoking traditional bunting.
The exposed steel structure, end-grain wood, pigmented concrete floors, and reclaimed brick, metal mesh, and weathered steel walls compose the interior material palette of The Anthem—combining to create an authentic space and backdrop for various performance events.
